When: Classes and workshops run year round with sessions starting throughout the year. Private family workshops available by appointment.
Where: 2025 Rue Parthenais, Studios 244 and 250, Montreal, Quebec H2K 3T2 🚇 Frontenac
Highlights:
- Learning in a Historic Creative Hub: La Fabrique Éthique's studios are located in the Grover Building, a former textile factory turned artist workspace that represents one of Montreal's major creative hubs. The naturally lit studios create an inspiring environment where teens and families can explore sewing in a space that honours the city's textile heritage while fostering modern creative expression.
- Skills That Build Confidence and Independence: Learning to sew provides teens with practical skills that extend far beyond the studio. From understanding how to repair and adjust clothing to creating custom pieces that reflect personal style, the workshops teach independence, problem solving, and the satisfaction of making something with your own hands.
- Professional Instruction with Personal Attention: All instructors at La Fabrique Éthique are fashion professionals with expertise in pattern making, tailoring, and made to measure work. Their teaching approach focuses on adapting to each student's pace and goals, ensuring teens receive supportive guidance whether they're complete beginners or already have some sewing experience.
- Family Workshops That Connect Generations: Private family sewing workshops provide a unique opportunity for parents and teens to learn together in a collaborative setting. These sessions allow families to work on personal projects while receiving professional instruction, creating shared experiences that go beyond typical family activities.
- Sustainable Fashion Education: The school's mission centres on promoting more conscious clothing choices and sustainable fashion practices. Teens learn to see clothing differently, understanding construction, fabric choices, and the value of creating pieces that last rather than following fast fashion trends.
Recommended Audience: This experience is perfect for families with teens and young adults in Montreal who want to develop practical creative skills, explore sustainable fashion, value hands on learning experiences, and enjoy activities that build independence and self expression.
What to Expect: Family workshops provide hands on instruction in sewing basics or specific projects, with all tools and machines provided in fully equipped studios within a historic textile factory building.

Some things to consider during your visit:
-
All Classes Require Advance Booking: La Fabrique Éthique operates by appointment only, so you cannot simply drop in. You must book your workshop or class time in advance through their website or by contacting them directly. This ensures proper preparation and availability of instructors and workspace.
-
Location Requires Stairs: The studios are located on the second floor of the Grover Building without elevator access. The building is not easily accessible for those with mobility limitations, so families should be aware of this before booking.
-
Metro Station Requires an 8 Minute Walk: While the Frontenac metro station is the closest public transit access, reaching the studio requires an 8 minute walk. If you're relying on public transportation, factor in this walking time, particularly in colder months or if carrying materials for your project.
-
No Reserved Parking Available: The Grover Building does not offer reserved parking for students. If you're driving, you'll need to find street parking in the surrounding neighbourhood, which may be limited depending on the time of day.
-
Fabric and Materials May Require Shopping: While the studios provide access to sewing machines, tools, and some donated fabrics, many projects require students to purchase specific fabrics and supplies. For family workshops, you may need to shop for materials beforehand or plan time to visit a fabric store, which adds to the overall time commitment.
-
Group Classes Have Age Requirements: While private family workshops welcome children as young as 9 years old with an adult present, regular group classes require participants to be at least 16 years old for safety and independence reasons.
Disclosure: We received a complimentary family sewing workshop in exchange for our coverage.
