Haidilao

Treat Your Teens to a Customizable Hot Pot Experience in the Heart of Downtown Montreal!

Haidilao is a hot pot chain founded in 1994 in Sichuan, China, and has since grown into one of the largest hot pot brands in the world, with more than 1,700 locations across countries including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Australia. Its downtown Montreal location brings the brand's signature approach to the table: a cook it yourself hot pot meal built around a wide selection of broths, meats, seafood, and vegetables, paired with tableside entertainment throughout the night.

When:
Open Monday to Thursday from 11 AM to 1 AM, and Friday to Sunday from 11 AM to 2 AM.

Where:
1194 Rue Sainte Catherine O, Montréal, QC H3B 1K1
🚇 Peel

Highlights:

  • Cook Your Own Meal Tableside: At the center of every table sits a simmering pot that guests fill themselves with a wide selection of broths, thinly sliced meats, seafood, noodles, and fresh vegetables, letting each person build a meal to their own taste.

  • A Broth for Every Preference: Pots can be divided into multiple sections, so a milder option like the tomato broth can be paired with a spicier Sichuan style broth at the same table, giving groups with different spice tolerances an easy way to share.

  • A Sauce Bar to Make It Your Own: A self serve station offers a wide range of condiments, from garlic and sesame oil to chili paste and cilantro, so everyone at the table can mix a dipping sauce suited to their own taste.

  • Tableside Noodle Performance: One of the restaurant's best known touches is a server who hand pulls and spins fresh noodles right at the table, a bit of dinner theater that has become closely associated with the Haidilao name.

  • Occasional Sichuan Face Changing Performance: On select occasions, the restaurant also features a traditional Sichuan face changing performance, a quick moving act in which a performer swaps masks in an instant.

Recommended Audience:
This is a good outing for parents with teens and young adults in Montreal who enjoy interactive dining and want to introduce their group to hot pot in a lively downtown setting.

What to Expect:
A lively, interactive hot pot restaurant in the heart of downtown Montreal, where guests cook their own meal tableside and are treated to tableside performances throughout the night.

Some things to consider during your visit:

  • Decide on À La Carte or the Buffet Option Ahead of Time: Haidilao offers both an à la carte menu, where items are priced individually, and an all you can eat buffet option. Since pricing and what is included can vary, it is worth checking current options directly with the restaurant before your visit so your group can decide which format suits your appetite and budget.

  • Reservations Are Worth Making Ahead: Haidilao has drawn a steady crowd since opening in Montreal, and wait times can run long during evenings and weekends. Booking ahead, or planning to arrive earlier in the evening, can help your group avoid a long wait.

  • Special Performances Are Not Guaranteed Every Visit: The Sichuan face changing performance appears on select occasions rather than every night, so it is best not to plan a visit entirely around catching it.

Disclosure: Our visit to Haidilao was hosted by the restaurant in exchange for our coverage.
