Take Your Teens to the Old Port This Summer for Cirque du Soleil's Newest Big Top Show!

Cirque du Soleil returns to Montreal with ECHO, its 20th Big Top production. At the centre of it all is a two-storey glowing cube that rotates, fragments, and serves as a canvas for projections throughout the night. ECHO follows a young woman named Future and her dog Ewai on a journey through a fantastical world that explores connection, empathy, and the bond between humans and the natural world. It is playing under the Big Top at Quai Jacques-Cartier until August 16, 2026.

Highlights:

• A Cube That Steals the Show: The two-storey cube at the centre of the stage is the defining element of ECHO. It rotates, breaks apart, reveals performers from inside, and serves as a screen for projections throughout the night.
  
  
• Live Vocalists Performing Throughout: The vocalists perform front and centre throughout the show, and there were moments particularly during the opening where they were just as much the spectacle as anything happening on stage. In previous Cirque du Soleil productions the music and acrobatics feel like one seamless experience. In ECHO, the singers can stop you in your tracks on their own.
  
  
• Acts That Will Have Your Teens Talking: ECHO delivers on the acrobatics front, with standout sequences including the teeterboard finale and a banquine act that regularly draws the crowd to its feet. The clowns Double Trouble also get the audience involved throughout the show, which younger teens especially tend to get a kick out of.
  
  
• A Downtown Location That Makes It Easy to Build a Day Around: The Big Top sits right on the waterfront at Quai Jacques-Cartier in the Old Port. It is walkable from the Champ-de-Mars metro and easy to pair with dinner or a stroll through Old Montreal before or after the show.

This is a good outing for parents with teens and young adults in Montreal who enjoy live performance and want something more immersive than a typical night out.

What to Expect:
A Cirque du Soleil Big Top show built around a towering central cube, with live vocalists, acrobatics, and projections woven together into a single continuous experience.

Some things to consider during your visit:

• The Audience Tends to Skew Young: With no dark themes, villains, or scary moments, ECHO's lighthearted story and tone draw a noticeably younger crowd than previous Cirque du Soleil productions. For most teens this is unlikely to be a deal breaker, but it may be worth knowing before you go.

• More Theatrical Than High-Octane: If your family has seen previous productions like KOOZA or KURIOS and loved the non-stop daredevil energy, ECHO is worth approaching with slightly different expectations. It is a more poetic and atmospheric show, with acrobatics woven into a visual and musical experience that is theatrical rather than relentlessly high-octane. Still very much worth seeing, just a different flavour.
